VRS Region
Contrary to earlier population projections, it is now estimated that the VRS region will have nearly 50,000 fewer residents by 2050. This corresponds to a 1.5% decline in population. The independent city of Bonn and the district of Euskirchen will nevertheless continue to grow, while the remaining districts and independent cities will experience population losses, with the Oberberg and Rheinisch-Berg districts being the hardest hit, at -5.3% and -4.4%, respectively.
AVV Area
The AVV region is projected to have approximately 9,000 fewer residents by 2050 (-1.3%). The city of Aachen will have nearly five percent fewer residents, while the rest of the Aachen urban region will see a decrease of about three percent. In contrast, the two districts of Düren and Heinsberg will continue to grow, with the Heinsberg district even growing by about four percent.
go.Rheinland region
As a result, the go.Rheinland region will have nearly 59,000 fewer residents by 2050. This corresponds to a percentage decline of 1.3 percent.

In the AVV region, the number of older adults is projected to increase by about 21,000 (+6.3%) by 2050. In the district areas, their numbers will continue to rise, with regional increases ranging from 2 to about 14 percent. Only in the city of Aachen will there be 2 percent fewer older people in 2050.
go.Rheinland region
In the go.Rheinland region, there will thus be approximately 103,000 more older people living there by 2050. This corresponds to a percentage increase of eight percent.
