One region, one tariff
AVV and VRS are working on the tariff reform for 2026

One ticket for the entire region: as part of a comprehensive fare reform, the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV) are working on a joint local transport tariff for the entire Rhineland. From 2026, the previous network boundaries will no longer play a role in the everyday lives of people traveling between the two network areas. Instead, there will be a simple, easy-to-understand tariff system that will make access to local transport easier and encourage more people to switch to public transport.
How simplicity is making its way into the Rhineland
The fare experts at AVV and VRS have been working intensively for more than a year on a joint concept for a uniform local transport tariff in the Rhineland. This new tariff is intended to completely replace the existing network tariffs in the AVV and VRS areas in 2026. At their spring meetings, the association assemblies and the transport companies of both associations approved the corresponding rough concept for the new tariff for the Rhineland - an important milestone on the way to a more customer-friendly tariff structure.

"In future, we will rely on three pillars for mobility in the Rhineland: the Deutschlandticket for people who travel a lot, eezy for occasional users and the new tariff for the Rhineland as a simple basic tariff."
Based on the approved rough concept, the experts from VRS and AVV are currently working together with the transport companies in defined project structures on the concrete design of the new tariff. External experts are also supporting the process. They will help to analyze the effects on passengers and economic efficiency.
The resulting detailed concept is expected to be submitted to the transport companies and the association assemblies for approval at the end of 2025.
In addition to the tariff issues, the implementation of sales and a future governance model will be developed in parallel. In this way, a sustainable foundation for the new tariff in the Rhineland is being created step by step.

Moving more together
With the go.synergy program, the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg and the Aachener Verkehrsverbund have been intensifying their long-standing cooperation under the umbrella of go.Rheinland since the beginning of 2023. The aim is to sustainably increase the quality and attractiveness of local transport in the Rhineland through coordinated structures and joint projects. A central project of go.synergy is the introduction of a uniform tariff for the region - with a consistent focus on passenger benefits.

"The aim of our fare reform is simplicity. We are not just cutting back on services, but creating a new, uniform fare system for the Rhineland. We want people in the region to be able to use local transport without major access barriers."
