Flexible and record-breaking
Unrivaled ease and affordability on the road with eezy.nrw

The electronic airline fare eezy.nrw is increasingly establishing itself as an attractive alternative for occasional travelers in North Rhine-Westphalia. As part of the planned tariff reform by AVV and VRS, the declared aim is to establish the eTariff as the central tariff for occasional passengers in the short to medium term. The digital airline-based access to public transport makes it considerably easier to use, lowers the barriers to entry and thus makes an important contribution to the mobility transition in NRW.
Record of ten million journeys reached
The popularity of the eTarif, which was launched in 2021, is impressively reflected in the current usage figures: In spring 2025, the mark of ten million journeys completed nationwide was exceeded - a milestone.

"This impressive figure shows that the innovative eTariff developed by us at VRS has been well received by passengers and is a real alternative to conventional tickets. It's great to see that our efforts to make local public transport simpler and more accessible are being received so positively."

"eezy.nrw is a successful product and, together with the Deutschlandticket embedded in the upcoming new tariff for the Rhineland, will form the basis for the tariff future in the greater Cologne - Aachen - Bonn area."
In December 2024 in particular, the NRW-wide ride-sharing campaign during the Advent season resulted in a significant increase in journeys, which continued in the following months.
State-wide fare cap boosts attractiveness
The introduction of a state-wide fare cap from January 2026 will make eezy.nrw even more attractive: funded by the NRW Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport, eezy.nrw guarantees the cheapest one-way ticket offer in 2nd class until the end of 2027. An evaluation in 2027 will decide on a possible extension.

"eezy.nrw is the fare offer for all those who do not travel often enough by public transport to buy a Deutschlandticket. Thanks to the monthly price cap, eezy.nrw is capped at the current price of the Deutschlandticket for 2nd class travel. "
Positive response and targeted marketing
An online survey in spring 2025 confirmed the high level of user satisfaction: around 4,500 participants rated the tariff with an average of 4.42 out of 5 stars. This was accompanied by a variety of marketing measures, including voucher campaigns, geofencing, product videos and campaigns such as the "OecherLab" for senior citizens, which increased awareness and user loyalty.

The OecherLab is a test room run by the city of Aachen where the Senior Citizens' Café regularly takes place to help senior citizens with digital issues. The AVV is present at several events where the purchase of eezy (in naveo) is explained, explained and tested together with the senior citizens.
Municipal promotion as a driver of success
The attractiveness of eezy.nrw is also specifically promoted at municipal level. Cities and municipalities contribute to the widespread use of the tariff by covering basic or working prices. Initial experience in the AVV area shows this: Local subsidies are particularly effective when they are tailored to local conditions and strategically interact with existing fare offers.
To get even more passengers excited about eezy.nrw, the VRS has also developed various explanatory videos that present the benefits of the airline fare in a humorous and entertaining way. The campaign was played out on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in June and July 2025.
